Why You Need UsefulRest
These days computer skills are necessary in many professions. However even at optimal illumination and with the use of ergonomics screens, a computer user's eyes feel the strain which can quickly lead to eye fatigue. Many health problems can manifest themselves as a result.
Signs that can indicate vision problems:
- red eyes
- burning sensation in the eyes
- blurry vision at any distance
- mistiness, weak focusing
- double vision, or "the words run together"
- sharp pain and feeling of "sand" in the eyes
- pain in the eye sockets or forehead
- pain when moving the eyes
- tears (as in crying) or the opposite, dryness of the eyes
- headaches
- eyes that grow weary quickly
- eyesight is worse at the end of the day
- neck ache at the end of the day
Many computer users experience aches and pains in their hands, wrists, arms, neck, shoulders or back (i.e. to their musculoskeletal system) especially after long periods of uninterrupted computer work. Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS) also known as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) can be very painful and debilitating if not treated early.
If you identified some of the above symptoms as health problems you are experiencing, you may be suffering from Computer Vision Syndrome or OOS/RSI. While the best cure is prevention, if the injury already exists, it will require a change in work methods and strict adherence to new procedures for healing and recovery.
To prevent or to get rid of these and other painful symptoms, computer users should take regular breaks from the computer. But it's easy to forget about these short breaks, and just as easy to ignore various reminders we may have set up. To force oneself to take a break from the computer and get a little rest, exercise, or snack, it is best to block the computer screen during that time.
