How to use UsefulRest


UsefulRest is automatically loaded and running when you start Windows. If you disable this setting, the UsefulRest will not be loaded and running automatically when you start Windows.

After loaded and running, a UsefulRest icon appears next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar. Shortcut menu appears when you right-clicks this icon in the notification area. This menu contains commands you can use to manipulate UsefulRest:

By moving the mouse pointer over the icon an information message appears about the current status of UsefulRest.



For 3 (three) and 1 (one) minute before a break UsefulRest will warn about upcoming break. That will allow you to save open files and to be prepared for a break.

You can always find out how much time is left until a break by moving the mouse pointer over the icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar. An information message will appear.

You can change the message sounds in the Options dialog box on the Sounds page.



As soon as the moment to take a break has come, the screen will be blocked.

This mode is called Pause.

You can customize duration of pause and duration of work between pauses according to your preferences. By default interval of work between breaks 60 minutes, and duration of a pause 10 minutes.

You can always find out, how many time remained to ending a break.

You can change the message sounds in the Options dialog box on the Sounds page.

Depending on parameters of the program, the window of the program can be translucent or black. By default window of the program is translucent.

You can enable or disable opportunity of interruption of a pause.

You can enable or disable opportunity to use password for of interruption of a pause.

After ending a pause it is necessary to press any key for closing a window of the program.

You can customize any settings of the program, such as duration of pauses and micropauses, duration of work between pauses and micropauses etc. according to your preferences. To show the Options dialog box:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Options...
    or
  • Click Start, point to Programs, point to UsefulRest, and then click Options.

Protection Level Children's hour.

The level of protection Children's hour will allow to limit work of the child on the computer to the certain period of time, for example within 1 hour per day, that is the child can work of the time, no more allocated to him. The given level of protection supposes work only 1 time per day.

The maximal duration of the period of time, during which is possible to work: 120 minutes.

The level of protection Children's Hour will begin to work the after reboot your computer. After ending an interval of work, will be set the pause by duration 23 hours. At reboot of the computer in the same day, when this level of protection runs, the pause comes at once.

That the child could not interrupt a pause is recommended to set the password for of interruption of a pause or disable the Cancel button (this you can customize in the Options dialog box). It is made that you could work, when want, the next pauses will work as usually, in compliance with settings in the Options dialog box.

For this level of protection is stipulated the separate control dial-up connection (that is a dial-up connection by using a phone line and modem), before a break. It will allow you to not worry about disconnect dial-up connection. If this enable, it will be disconnected as soon as the pause will begin.

For use the level of protection Children's Hour:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Options....
  • Click the Children's hour tab.
  • To set parameters.
  • Click OK.


The supervisor password for change UsefulRest settings.

The supervisor password allows turn on or off control access for change UsefulRest settings.

For use the supervisor password:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Options....
  • Click the Password tab.
  • Type a supervisor password in the Supervisor password section.
  • Click OK.
For delete the supervisor password:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Options....
  • Click the Password tab.
  • Delete asterisks (*) in the Supervisor password section.
  • Click OK.
You might want to write down your supervisor password. You will need to type it any time you change the UsefulRest settings.



Control dial-up connection (that is a dial-up connection by using a phone line and modem), before a break (pause or micropause).

It will allow you to not worry about disconnect dial-up connection. If this enable, it will be disconnected as soon as the break will begin.



Increase of the current interval of work.

The maximal period of time, which is possible to add it 10 minutes.

In some levels of protection this is disabled

For increase of the current interval of work:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Add Work Time.
  • Type the necessary period of time.
  • Click OK.


Pause Now:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Pause Now.


If temporarily it is necessary to suspend work of the program:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Disable.
If work of the program is stopped:

  • Right-click icon next to the clock in the notification area on the taskbar and then click Enable.
In some levels of protection this is disabled



For prevention of the OOS/RSI, this software through the given time intervals (is recommended from 4 to 5 minutes) informs you, the beginning of a micropause in computer work.

This mode is called Micropause. By default it is disabled.
