CorpMed's® web-based Ergo Clinics® were developed by board certified occupational physician, Dr. Kevin Byrne to reduce preventable on-the-job injuries.

The Ergo Clinic corporate ergonomic training has saved members hundreds of thousands of dollars in reduced Workers' Compensation claims and lower insurance premiums. Clients have also enjoyed measurable gains in employee productivity due to increased comfort.

CorpMed’s personal online ergonomic training course has helped users correctly set up their home office to reduce cumulative/repetitive stress injuries (CTDs / MSDs (Cumulative Trauma Disorders / Musculoskeletal Disorders)) and enjoy a more productive workspace.

Ergonomic Online Training Software

The training course includes self-paced, high-quality video vignettes that are engaging, informative and effective.

Self-help instructions let employees make adjustments by following simple step-by-step directions from the convenience of their own desks. They’ll also learn helpful, quick stretching exercises.

A comprehensive management tool for administrators provides ergonomic training reports that identify employees at high risk of injury, those already experiencing discomfort, employees who have completed safety training and much more.

Office Ergonomic Clinic

The Office Ergo Clinic is a short, web-based training program that helps employees manage ergonomic related problems on their own. Employees can identify issues themselves and will feel more comfortable immediately when they troubleshoot problems before they cause injury.

Computer workers learn how to optimize their work area to prevent cumulative injury. The Office Ergo Clinic takes them through the process of making adjustments to achieve the proper chair height, backrest and armrest positions, keyboarding techniques, stretching exercises, and maintaining the correct posture to prevent pain and fatigue.

The Office Ergo Clinic training program contains three modules:

  1. Adjustment. Workstation Adjustment for chair, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and accessories
  2. Technique. Posture and Technique for keyboarding in comfort
  3. Stretching. Stretching Exercises

Laboratory

Laboratory workers face special challenges due to repetitive and sustained awkward postures. This online ergonomic training program demonstrates correct techniques for microscope and pipette work, as well as general laboratory safety. It will help prevent repetitive stress injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis.

Employees access the training at any time from any online computer and learn at their own pace. Clear step-by-step instructions and excellent illustrations create an engaging learning experience.

CorpMed’s Laboratory Ergo Clinic includes a Self Care Center for stretching exercises and a quiz.

  • Pipetting. Use the neutral wrist position for pipetting.
  • Microscope. Lab stool should be adjusted to the correct height and moved forward to the counter.

Patient Transfer

The Patient Transfer Ergonomic Training Module was developed specifically to prevent shoulder and back injuries in those who move patients. This patient handling tutorial demonstrates proper techniques for conducting single and two-person wheelchair/bed transfers, repositioning patients in beds and wheelchairs, and ambulating patients.

  • Patients Who Need Minimal Assistance. Mechanical lift equipment may not be necessary for assisting patients who are basically ambulatory. Good posture and technique are essential for guiding patients in repositioning or transferring.
  • Gait Belts. The Ergo Clinic illustrates the proper fitting and use of gait belts, an inexpensive yet indispensable component of safe patient handling.
  • Mechanical Lift Devices. An important step in the use of mechanical lift equipment is to correctly apply the sling.
  • Mechanical Lift Devices. Total body lifts are the recommended device for patients who are dependent or unable to follow instructions.

Material Handling and Warehouse Operations

Specifically designed to teach material handling workers how to avoid serious injury to themselves and others, this module illustrates the proper techniques for lifting, carrying, and reaching for objects. It also includes tips for light assembly, hand tool use and general warehouse safety.

  • Proper-Lifting. Proper lifting uses the legs as much as possible, keeping one’s head upright and back straight. The load should be kept close to the body. Avoid twisting while lifting or carrying.
  • High-reach-correct. Proper lifting and carrying are described and illustrated to reduce back, shoulder and knee injuries.

Early Intervention Prevents Injury

Uniquely ours, the Ergo Clinic Self-Care Center is easy to use and provides practical information for employees who are already experiencing discomfort.

By simply clicking on the affected body part, relevant hyperlinks are presented that allow visitors to troubleshoot a problem. They double check the most likely causes of the problem, and are then presented with a list of solutions, including specific stretching exercises designed to alleviate their discomfort.

Self-Care information includes:

  • Likely contributing factors from work or home activities
  • Equipment adjustment solutions
  • Keyboarding technique and posture solutions
  • Stretching exercise solutions
  • Tips for home, hobbies and sports
  • Neck stretching. This Self Care Center exercise is designed to relieve the stress and tension that is typically held in the neck and shoulder areas.

Ergonomic Training Reports

Ergo Clinic company administrators enjoy a variety of reports that track their employees’ training progress in real time. Information can be displayed in a variety of formats so that you can customize the report to your specific needs, and forward it to others.

Training Status Report lists those who have begun training, completed training or not started. A list of email addresses is provided for all employees who still need to complete the training. Information can be filtered or sorted by date of completion, last access date, employee name, business unit or other criteria.

The Survey Results and Risk Analysis Reports contain a wealth of information that enable Ergo Administrators to intervene early and prevent injuries. Employee responses to ergonomic-related questions result in a low-to-high “risk rating,” used to target follow up efforts to employees with the greatest need. You can then prioritize your follow up efforts to focus on individuals who are at a high risk for developing a costly injury. The report also provides you with email addresses to facilitate contacting these employees.

Many other admin functions are included that allow you to efficiently manage your ergonomics program.

Easy Setup and Ongoing Support

CorpMed provides support for all aspects of ergonomics program design, training and program management. You’ll experience our high level of customer support starting with installation and deployment. Set up and launch takes just a few minutes and requires minimal work for you and your IT staff (IT simply places a link to the Ergo Clinic on one or more of your intranet pages). Once installed, we’ll continue providing support by helping you roll out your ergonomic program for maximum effectiveness. Your entire enterprise will have immediate access to training, safety resources, and self-care information from any online computer at any time.

And that’s not all. We’ll help you promote use of the Ergo Clinic training throughout your organization, sharing tips that have helped our clients successfully reach 90% participation rates.

We’re dedicated to making sure you and your employees experience the full potential of the Ergo Clinic Training and Program Management System.

Benefits

Reduce Workers’ Comp Costs

Ergonomic-related injuries such as Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs), Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs) or Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are the most common and also the most costly of all workplace disorders.

Examples of these disorders include the following:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tendonitis of the wrist, elbow or shoulder
  • Lower Back Pain

Costs to an organization for such injuries include:

  • Indemnity – replacement wages for workers out of work due to injury
  • Additional wages – for those filling in for injured workers
  • Lost productivity – due to absent or restricted workers
  • Absenteeism – for workers who do not file a claim; and “presentee-ism” (working at low capacity due to discomfort)
  • Quality problems – due to workers filling in for an injured worker
  • Overtime and temporary workers
  • Sickness absence for injuries not claimed under W/C (estimated at three times the number of claims for CTDs)

The medical costs to injured workers include medical office visits, medication, surgery, therapy, rehabilitation and/or chiropractic care. These continue to increase much faster than the rate of inflation.

For just a few dollars per employee, CorpMed’s Ergo Clinics have saved companies millions of dollars by helping to significantly reduce workers comp claims and increase productivity, quality, morale and employee retention.

Discover the tangible benefits and measurable savings your company can experience. This report outlines actual results our clients have enjoyed since implementing the Ergo Clinic in their organizations.

Reducing Risk and Controlling Costs

As a Risk Manager, your role is critical to your company’s ability to contain costs. Your unique set of skills, knowledge and experience are essential to recognizing and controlling loss drivers.

Focusing on controllable risks can greatly assist you in improving bottom line results. And knowing where to focus your attention – avoiding injury at work – is where you can save hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance premiums and Workers’ Comp claims.

Shouldn’t preventing injury be targeted by every Risk Manager as a cost avoidance strategy? We think so.

CorpMed’s Ergo Clinic online training program has been proven to be one of the most economic solutions for reducing injury rates. For just a few dollars per employee, dozens of companies have reduced absences, avoided costly surgeries, and watched disability claims plummet to almost zero after employees were given access to the Ergo Clinic tutorial.

Additional benefits include:

  • Painful conditions are recognized earlier and corrected before disability sets in
  • Productivity and quality are improved due to increased comfort
  • Less exposure to future claims because the training is effective and well documented
  • Lower costs for disability and replacement workers
  • Fewer new equipment purchases as employees learn to correctly adjust their existing equipment

Plus, our clients have experienced savings with their health plans, and lowered Experience Mod Rate and insurance premiums.

Higher Morale and Better Retention

Human Resource departments are performing a balancing act with competing priorities that include employee recruitment, retention, absenteeism, morale, productivity, training for new and existing employees, finding temps, reviewing overtime requirements, dealing with state and federal compliance issues...and much more. All while working with fewer resources than ever before.

Let CorpMed’s Ergo Clinic assist you. The Ergo Clinic is a proactive employee benefit that greatly helps reduce stress, turnover, and unnecessary absence. Greater comfort improves morale, boosts productivity, and lowers Workers’ Comp claims.

We’ll provide ongoing support to help you promote use of the training throughout your organization. We’ll share tips that our clients have used to successfully reach the highest participation levels, including incentive programs such as raffles, competitions and “wellness points.”

CorpMed provides support for all aspects of the Ergo Clinic. We’ll help you design your ergonomic program for maximum penetration and effectiveness throughout your company.

Offer your employees the Ergo Clinic and demonstrate how much you truly value your company’s number one asset.

The Proactive Approach to Safety

As a Safety Officer, you’re the first line of defense for the safety of your workforce. Employees turn to you when they need an evaluation or have a safety issue that needs immediate attention.

You’re also under pressure to contain costs associated with equipment purchases, Workers’ Comp claims, safety training, and more.

Wouldn’t it be great to have some assistance? Imagine if your employees could determine the cause of discomfort on their own, then make adjustments that provide immediate comfort. What if you could improve overall safety results with a low-cost training program that reached ALL your employees?

The CorpMed Ergo Clinic can do all that and more. It includes an easy-to-use Self Care Center that employees access to determine the cause of their problem, then walks them step-by-step through the adjustments that solve it. The Self Care Center contains nearly everything you need to reduce injury, from decreasing overall risk factors to identifying individuals who need additional help.

What’s more, it contains a variety of reports that help you track employees’ training progress and document your success to management. Information can be filtered and sorted by time period, location and business unit, giving you control for tailoring it to your specific needs.

Your Virtual Assistant

The Ergo Clinic is the only web-based training product developed by an occupational physician. Dr. Kevin Byrne has devoted the past 20 years to treating and preventing (CTDs/ MSDs (Cumulative Trauma Disorders / Musculoskeletal Disorders)). So you can be assured this training is high quality, comprehensive, and medically and technically accurate.

It’s good preventive medicine, too.

As you know, CTDs and MSDs are quite preventable, especially when intervention is early. Use this proven training program to prevent unnecessary surgery and needless disability...along with their associated costs.

Save time and effort by empowering employees with the knowledge to correctly adjust their existing equipment, correct their posture and learn helpful keyboarding techniques. Most employees can learn and apply the Ergo Clinic’s information themselves. This will allow you to focus your attention on those at highest risk or already in discomfort.
