• ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) (Optional)
  Primarily designed for motorway driving, ACC is a feature that employs radar technology to monitor the traffic ahead. It comprises three interacting systems: ACC, Collision Warning and Brake Support.
  
  ACC uses a forward-scanning radar to monitor the time interval between the car and the vehicle in front. The driver chooses a cruising speed and the system maintains it-slowing slightly to maintain distance to the car in front when necessary. The driver also chooses the time interval to be maintained to the next vehicle-between one and three seconds.
  
  Collision Warning estimates the time necessary to avoid a collision, taking the driver's reaction time into consideration. If the driver doesn't appear to react when a collision risk has been determined, Collision Warning emits an audible and visible warning to alert his or her attention. Collision Warning can be set at one of three sensitivity levels.
  
  Brake Support works closely with Collision Warning to help mitigate collision. If a forward collision appears imminent, Brake Support pre-applies the brakes-partly as a further measure to alert the driver, partly to reduce brake response time. At this point, an attempted emergency braking manoeuvre by the driver is reinforced by Hydraulic Brake Assist, which has already been primed. Additionally, the emergency brake lights are activated to warn vehicles behind.
• DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control)
  DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) enhances driving stability in slippery conditions by comparing the rotation of the drive wheels and, if needed, varying the power supply. This system also compares the car's direction with its steering wheel movements. Then, when necessary, cuts engine power or brakes individual wheels to help reduce skidding and maintain control. You can even set the system to ensure extra traction in snowy conditions.

  Active Bi-Xenon headlamps help you to see round bends at night. Controlled by microprocessors, the motorised lamps turn up to 15° in either direction, faithfully lighting up your chosen path. A twilight sensor disengages the system during daylight to extend its life-span, and a high-pressure washer cleans the lenses-one at a time for continuous performance.

  Bi-Xenon headlamps employ Gas Discharge Lamps to provide twice the illumination of a conventional halogen headlight. These headlights self-adjust to maintain the correct angle to the road, even when the car is fully loaded. High-pressure washers clean the lenses-one at a time for continuous performance.

• SIPS (Side Impact Protection System)
  Redesigned for even better protection against side impacts, the Volvo S80's Side Impact Protection System distributes collision forces away from the occupants using a framework of high-tensile steel struts and the floor of the car body. Beyond the reinforcements to the car body, the system's side airbags now have separate filling circuits enabling the hip chamber to be inflated with five times as much pressure as the chest chamber. These sixth generation side airbags help to absorb maximum impact where the body is most fragile. This innovation is based on our accident research, and developed with simulation technology.

  The Volvo S80's advanced structure incorporates a special Side Impact Protection System that absorbs and distributes collision forces to help protect the occupant's body. The system includes SIPS bags in two separate chambers - to help protect smaller and taller people. In a side impact, these inflate at different pressures to concentrate protection where it is most needed.
• Passenger airbag cut off switch (Optional)
  In order for a child less than 150 cm tall to ride in the front passenger seat, you can specify your Volvo without a passenger airbag. Alternatively, specify a passenger airbag which can be conveniently deactivated or activated as necessary with the help of your remote control key. When the airbag is switched off, you are notified via a message that comes on in the interior rear-view mirror.
• Dual stage driver and passenger airbags
  In a frontal collision, the driver and front passenger airbags help protect your head, face and chest. The system varies their level of inflation depending on the force of the collision. Should the collision force be sufficiently low that the airbags aren't needed, it will deploy the safety belt pre-tensioners.
• IC (Inflatable Curtain)
  Inflating in a side-impact accident to protect the heads of all outboard occupants, the IC (Inflatable Curtain) helps to offer protection whether you're in the front or the rear. It also stays inflated in multiple or longer-duration accidents.

• WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System)
  If your car is hit from behind at low speed, WHIPS ensures the front seat follows the backward movement of the body and tips to cushion the head and upper part of the body - all of which helps significantly reduce the strain on the spine and neck.

• Security

• PCC (Personal Car Communicator) (Optional)
  PCC is an interactive communication device that fits in the palm of your hand, and even incorpo-rates Keyless Drive. Simply keep the PCC with you and the car unlocks automatically on your arrival. Start the engine with a press of a button, lock the car by pressing a button in the door handle. Later in the day, if you're wondering whether you've locked the car, your PCC can remind you.
  
  And when you return to the Volvo S80-within a radius of 60 to 100 metres-the PCC can provide a current report on its status that shows if the car is still locked, if the alarm has been triggered and, thanks to an onboard heartbeat sensor, if somebody is inside your car. PCC can also be used to operate the other remote controlled functions - such as the central locking, alarm, security lighting and panic alarm.
• Anti-theft Alarm, including Volume Sensor and Level Sensor
  The alarm is triggered if anyone attempts to open the doors, bonnet or boot lid, as well as reacting to movement inside the car or if a window is broken. Add a level sensor and the alarm triggers if the car is jacked up - and you can activate it manually from your remote control in an emergency.

  The anti-locking brakes are designed for an optimal performance even during repetitive and intensive use. You can brake as hard as you like as you steer clear of trouble.
  
  FBS (Fading Brake Support) - hydraulic based system, compensating for brake fade - a temporary reduction in braking action that can occur if the driver applies hard braking for a prolonged period.
  
  HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) - helping the driver stop the car in the shortest possible distance, HBA employs a combination of vacuum and hydraulics. This ensures that the optimal braking power is always available when it's needed. Additionally, the hydraulic power maintains brake pressure even through prolonged brake usage.
  
  RAB (Ready Alert Brakes) - reducing the brake distance further, RAB uses information such as the sudden release of the accelerator or the Adaptive Cruise Control to anticipate an emergency braking manoeuvre. It moves the brake pads closer to the discs to speed brake response.

• BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) (Optional)
  BLIS, (Blind Spot Information System) is particularly reassuring in congested and fast-moving traffic situations. Using rear-facing digital cameras installed in the door mirrors, it monitors the traffic on either side of the car. As a vehicle enters your blind spot, the system helps alert you with a discreet lamp built in to the front door post. Together with the door mirrors, this helps enable you to quickly assess the feasibility of a lane change. The system is activated once the car exceeds 6 mph, and reacts to almost any type of motor vehicle. It works equally well, day or night. Always check your mirrors. Be aware of the traffic around you.

  Rear park assist makes it easier to reverse, for instance when backing into a space between two cars. A pulsating tone inside the cabin rises to a steady signal when an object is about 30 cm behind your rear bumper.

  Together with a compatible Bluetooth GSM phone, this feature combines the benefits of the car's infotainment system with wireless telephone. Caller ID and your pre-programmed telephone numbers are instantly displayed via the main display and you can switch freely from the hands-free system to the phone itself. Sound quality is enhanced and the system automatically remembers the mobile last used.
• Cruise control
  Allows you to drive relaxed and safely without having to keep your foot on the accelerator. The car maintains the speed you choose until you turn off the cruise control or press the brake, accelerator or clutch. After accelerating - for instance to overtake - your car automatically reverts to its previous cruising speed once you release the accelerator. After braking, the car returns to its previous cruising speed at the touch of a button on the steering wheel.
• Information centre
  Operated via the indicator stalk, the information Centre shows current and average fuel consumption, how far the fuel will take you, average speed and distance driven - helping you drive more economically.
• Dual band integrated GSM telephone with handset (Optional)
  The integrated GSM phone allows you to make and answer phone calls using the buttons in the steering wheel or the keypad in the centre console. An integrated phone and the car's front loudspeakers enhance communication. An extra handset allows you or one of your passengers to carry on a private conversation.
• RTI Navigation System with RDS-TMC and Europe DVD maps (Optional)
  RTI Navigation System helps you find the quickest route to your destination and to the nearest parking-place, hotel, petrol station, restaurant, tourist site etc. Spoken instructions guide you when necessary. The 6.5-inch colour widescreen is at eye level and shows both where you are, and how far you have to go. You also receive advance warnings of traffic tailbacks and suggestions for alternative routes. The system is controlled via menus which do not require you to take your hands off the wheel. The separate remote control allows a passenger to operate the system and the map-based information is stored on DVD. When the navigation system is not in use, the display can be hidden in the dashboard.

  This Volvo S80 Premium Sound system is a landmark in automotive audio. It's the result of an intimate and lasting collaboration between Volvo's diligent audiophiles and those of the Danish loudspeaker specialist Dynaudio, and Dolby Laboratories. The D-class digital amplifier generates 650 watts of music in total. The Dolby (R) Pro Logic (R) II surround sound, with its centre loudspeaker and sound processor, recreates music that's equally authentic at each of the four seating positions. There are 12 Dynaudio loudspeakers each with its own filter to coordinate with the others-a technology that is relatively new in car audio. There are separate elements for bass, mid-range and treble in each door, and in the side panels at the rear seats a similar set-up with bass and treble. The centre speaker in the dash is the central nerve of the surround system, conducting the surround sound experience. Furthermore, the volume automatically adjusts according to the speed you're driving.
