• Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)
  Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) is a sophisticated stabilization system which, in addition to the STC functions, intervenes and corrects any tendency to skid. A number of sensors monitor the rotational speed of all four wheels, the driver's steering wheel input - e.g. the steering angle - and the course of the car. The DSTC control unit processes these signals and, if any deviation from the norm is detected, such as the start of a rear-wheel skid, the system intervenes and gently activates the brakes to the appropriate wheel to put the car back on course again. It also reduces engine power if necessary. DSTC makes a decisive contribution to driving safety, especially on slippery surfaces.

• Safety-Cage Passenger Compartment
  The front and rear crumple zones help to dissipate and distribute incoming collision forces to help reduce the physical strain on the car's occupants. The vehicle's structure keeps the passenger compartment intact, including the roof pillars and transverse roof profiles, since they absorb a great deal of the forces if the vehicle starts to roll. They form an interactive web of steel profiles, of which the most crucial parts are made of high-strength boron steel.   The Rollover Protection System (ROPS) helps protect the occupants should the convertible roll over. The reinforced windshield pillar and windshield frame, combined with automatic rollover bars at the rear, are designed to provide additional protection.

  The steering column has an advanced safety design. Both the upper and lower sections telescope in a frontal collision. This helps reduce the risk of injury to the driver in frontal collisions.
• Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS)
  Volvo's patented Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) helps reduce the risk of serious injury in a side-impact. SIPS consists of a strong body structure with a number of interacting features, all of which help to distribute and reduce the collision energy. The structure of the car body is designed to reduce the deformation of the side of the car in a side impact. By utilizing large parts of the structure of the car, the collision energy is distributed and absorbed in the transverse direction. SIPS comprises reinforced body components such as side members, roof pillars, roof, doors, and cross-members in the floor and along the dashboard. Transverse tubular sections have been fitted in the front seats, and between them there is a special "box" that transfers the force to the other side of the body. In addition, there are strong distance blocks in the doors and energy-absorbing material in the door panels. They help to reduce the impact on the occupants.

  To determine if the front passenger air bag should deploy or not, it is important to know if the seat is occupied. This safety system senses if the front passenger seat is occupied. From this determination, the front passenger airbag is activated or deactivated. A light will be displayed in the overhead console (above the rear view mirror) to indicate when the front passenger airbag is deactivated.
• Side Impact Air Bags for Driver and Front Passenger
  These help reduce the risk of serious injuries to the chest and hips in a side-impact collision. Inflating in a fraction of a second, they're fitted in the outer edge of the front-seat backrests, ensuring they're always positioned securely by your side. Together with the SIPS system and the Inflatable Curtain (IC), they help provide a unique level of protection.

  Children will always be your most precious cargo. The Volvo child-safety seat system consists of a frame with ISOFIX mounting for you to attach an optional baby seat or a child seat. ISOFIX is an international system that is designed to make it easier to correctly install and remove equipment. The ISOFIX frame is standard.

  Both the front and rear seats feature anti-submarining guards. The contoured shape of the seat frame with the high front edge helps to prevent occupants from sliding under and out of their belts in a collision.

• Safe Approach and Home Safe Lighting
  To enable the car owner to approach the car safely and securely in the dark, there is an "Approach Light" function. Pressing the yellow button on the remote control activates the interior lighting and several other light sources which illuminate the area around the car. To enhance the level of personal security, there is "Home Safe Lighting." Pulling the high-beam flasher lever after removing the ignition key turns on the high-beams and several other light sources, which illuminate the car owner's path for up to 90 seconds after locking the car.

  Homelink is an advanced system that can be programmed to learn the codes of three different remote-controlled devices (e.g., garage door openers, remote lighting, entry door lock). Homelink's sun-visor-mounted transceiver, powered by your car's electrical system, may then be used in place of your handheld remote controls. Included in Premium Package.
• Security System
  The basic version of Volvo's alarm helps to provide excellent anti-theft protection. This sophisticated alarm system is fully integrated in the electrical system of the car and is therefore very reliable. The alarm system is based on the central locking system with its remote control and "rolling codes."

• Locks

• Immobilizer, Encrypted Ignition Key
  The Volvo is equipped with a sophisticated challenge-response electronic immobilizer. Each ignition key supplied with your vehicle is electronically coded. When the key is inserted into the ignition switch, the code is transmitted to and compared with a code stored in the start inhibitor module. The car can be started only if a properly coded key is used. If the code from the key does not match the vehicle system, the engine will not run. As a result, it is virtually impossible to "hot-wire" and drive the car without the original key(s). An LED on the top of the dashboard flashes at 2-second intervals when the ignition has been switched off and the immobilizer is active.
• Key Integrated Remote Control with Central Power Door Locks
  Key Integrated Remote Control combines the functions of the remote key fob (door/trunk-tailgate/opening and locking, Safe Approach and Security System) and the metal key into one combined unit. There is also an 'all-windows down' comfort function by pushing and holding the unlock button for a few seconds.
  
  You can release/close the key through a push button located on the key's housing. There is also a panic alarm feature. In the event of trouble, press the panic alarm button and the alarm will sound.

  This deadbolt system engages automatically 30 seconds after the doors have been locked when the top is down. It engages a deadbolt, which means if a would-be thief were to reach into the open top car and try to open the door from the inside handle, the door will not open.
• Valet Private Locking (glove box, front door storage compartments and rear pass-through and trunk)
  Valet Private Locking (glove box, front door storage comaprtments, rear pass-through and trunk) engages locks in the previously mentioned location to keep those areas secure when you leave the keys with a parking attendant or someone else you are not familiar with.

  An ambient temperature gauge monitors outside temperature. The gauge is located on the dashboard. It can help warn the driver of potential road freeze situations.
• Rear Park Assist (Optional)
  This system warns of objects behind the vehicle while reversing with a buzz tone that pulses, then increases to a constant tone when object is within 9 inches. System engages when reverse gear is selected and begins to sound when an object is about 4 feet away.
• Volvo Navigation System with DVD Map Data and Remote Control (Optional)
  The Volvo Navigation System guides you on your way with an easy-to-read 6.5" color screen which folds into the dash when not in use.   Cruise control makes driving long distances relaxing. It maintains the selected speed without the need for the driver to keep a foot on the accelerator. Cruise Control can also help improve fuel economy through more even accelerator application.
• Trip Computer
  The trip computer stores information gathered from several systems in your car and has four menus that can be displayed in the text window. The functions measured are driving distance on current fuel reserve, average fuel consumption, current fuel consumption, average speed and current speed in km/h.
• Driver Information Display
  If any of the control or warning lamps lights up, the driver information display provides more detailed information and suggests what action you should take. It also shows information from the trip computer.

  The door mirrors are electrically operated, making them easy to adjust from the driver's seat. The memory function works in conjunction with the remote control.
